Social Media and Nigeria

Social Networking platforms have proven effective for organisations in recent times. We have come to realize the impact of organisational influence with the use of social media. Organisations tend to use Facebook, and as time passed, we have come to see organisations act like kids tweeting from time to time. Reaching out to customers about their products and services, rendering relevant solutions to problems, reviews has been made easy, and technology has impacted heavily in our lives.

But do these organisations use these SaaS(Software-as-a-service) platform to promote just their products and services in Nigeria? Do they get followers, as that is all they need? Do they make use of the LinkedIN service where they can easily explore people's management abilities to help in promoting the organisational products and services?

We have come to understand that some of these organisations in the country do not really care about the use of some of this SaaS platform, like LinkedIN. LinkedIN as a service is provided for employers to find the right employees, and individuals to be certain about what goes on in most organisations. Recruitment process has been made easy. But why do these organisation who involve themselves heavily on some of the social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, but have less use of the professional network like that of LinkedIN?

The social media platforms has been made easy. Costs can be reduced for the applicants who are applying from all parts of the country, and the organisation in turn can as well cut down costs in the process. If some of these organisations get relevant resumes from applicants on LinkedIN, and if anyone's profile is viewed, they can be contacted, only if the organisation deems the person fit for the position. They can as well use the Skype service in contacting the person and life is made easy. I did a research personally on some of these organisations in Nigeria and found out that if vacancies are posted on LinkedIN, applicants are notified on LinkedIN. I applied to 56 companies in Nigeria since the past 6 months, and only 2 companies viewed my profile, but wasn't contacted. But least, the profile was viewed by the 2 organisations.

Does it mean the high praise given to social media platforms is over-rated, or just some rumor being spread by the so-called people who give statistics of the use of social media by these organisations? Does social media function in the under-developed countries?  Well, it is left for you to do your research and answer the questions yourself.
