Why people quit their jobs.
In a rather unstable environment like ours, we are faced with so much inequalities especially in the work environment. Sometimes we wonder if we are in the best work-place or business environment. Sometimes, we have no choice but to remain there, only because of the economic situation. In understanding some aspects of the business world, one needs to be familiar with its environment before it gets out of hand.
Chika, a funds transfer employee in one of the well-known banks in Nigeria complains about his place of work. Each time we talk generally, he always has something to say, which is good. Ideas always pop-up whenever conversations are shared. Interestingly, Chika hates to talk about his job, despite the fact he majored in accounting. He always wanted a bank job, so what actually is going wrong?
According to Chika, ''I have been working in that organisation for the past 3 yrs, 26 persons are functioning in one of the branches at the bank, and I will poison them if I had the chance to''. At first, I thought the statement was said jokingly, or perhaps he had reached his alcoholic limit. But then, I wondered, if he had reached his limit, there are only two kinds of people that exists in this world that can only share the truth, drunk persons and kids. Oh, three actually, and critiquem360. Chika made this statement and I realized he meant it from the depth of his heart. If Chika doesn't hurt those at his branch to his satisfaction, his colleagues would hurt him (If they aren't already) one way or the other.
Why should we leave an organisation when necessary.
Experience: After giving so much to your organisation, and the organisation feels you haven't done enough. I think it's best you leave. I will give you an example, Shittu worked as a supervisor in the call center at MTN. He was the supervisor for 7 years, and he was overloaded with too many responsibilities. In as much as his overload, he did everything perfectly well. If you keep performing the same role & responsibility for your organisation and you feel you can do better in another role, and the company wouldn't want that for you, QUIT.
Politics: Our business environment is filled with politics. And in as much as you are the best at what you do, they do not care who you are, or what you are. People will want you down just because they don't like you or because they would rather see you unemployed than you performing the beautiful role that you do. Quit your job if your environment is like that. Chika is undergoing a tough one due to politics in his business environment. He claims the reason is because he converted to be a Muslim and he is being treated rather unfairly.
Management: This particular quality can turn out to be a book on its own. But according to Chika's organisation, top management has placed pride in the decision making process. They reorganize, shuffle and change directions constantly leaving people rather confused. They tend to show favoritism and give some workers better roles and at the expense reduce the stands of others.
As there are so many lists to be mentioned, the high level of unemployment has kept so many person in the wrong career chase. They prefer to be in that position, adjust with the pain they go through till they find something better. In choosing the right job for you, find out more about the business environment, find out more about the management, and set your mind to the task. I hope this helps.
