Drama in Ads!!!

The advertising agency in Nigeria has become so competitive, some have involved drama in their adverts, and some have included sorrows in theirs. Judging from the following adverts from MTN, the largest telecommunication industry in Nigeria. I would say the best advert so far are those done by Saka, and the very first advert of the guy who paints everything yellow and we never saw his face. It was so funny back then he even painted the waters YELLOW. (Couldn't find the video on Youtube).

Let's take a quick look at the other adverts done by MTN.

SAKA: Who is Saka? A lecturer, an actor, and he never came into limelight until he became an advert figure on television. He became a public figure, but would you render him a celebrity because of the advert done by Etisalat? Don't think so. But he became an important image on television with the 45 secs advert done. The advertising agency involved in this should be given Kudos for giving the audience such an interesting dramatic display by Saka and his team expressing what the organization truly wants.

Now, lets take a look at some of the other adverts placed by MTN.

DAVIDO: The super star came into limelight really fast. He was loved by many, and with his talent, he still has a lot to give his audience. But was he right for this advert? Don't think so. Ever wondered why MTN never used him for another advert? The intensity of his voice isn't for advert purposes, but for music purposes. In one of his statement, at the end of the advert, he said, 'My name is Davido, welcome to my world'. Your world is music Davido, not MTN pulse. I say it's a NO NO for me.

Celebrities may be an important factor in bringing audiences to be involved in organizational products/services. I don't see that working with the innovation skills used by these advertising agencies. The right person will always get the job done well, how do you choose these persons? How do you convey a simple message to your audience? We are here to watch, and we will always be here to judge.
